The news has been so personal lately, and everyone that I’ve talked to about it has strong feelings about the headlines. Whether it is power in politics or race or sexual harassment, it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t have a strong opinion on one or usually all of these topics. But a critical issue that has been overlooked is what is appropriate to share and what is too personal… is there such a thing as “too personal” anymore? In journalism school, we talked about whether or not disturbing images should be included in news stories. That doesn’t even seem to be a question anymore, nothing seems to be off limits. While we have a free press, we also have free will and need to carefully consider how we consume the news of the day (IMHO).
