Authentic leadership.

Author Bill George writes about Authentic Leadership in this HBR blog. He focuses on five qualities:

  • Understanding purpose
  • Practicing solid values
  • Leading with heart
  • Establishing connected relationships
  • Demonstrating self-discipline

What is most interesting about these values is that they are the hallmark of a strong person as well. In other words, there is no faking it. There is no way around doing the hard work of digging down deep and finding meaning in life, which George refers to as ‘finding your true north.’¬†Authenticity is critical for leadership that will stand the test of time. Leaders by title may come and go, but genuine leaders are rare. And the world needs more of them. Check it out.
